Bingo used to be seen as the game the grandmothers would play, sitting with their friends ticking away the numbers as they are called. We even see this stereotyped on television and in the movies to further strengthen that image. Over the decades though the best bingo games have changed, to liven it up, to bring in a younger audience, and fit in with a more technical world.

The game bingo has been around since the 1920’s and was actually known as Beano until Edwin S. Lowe changed the name to bingo. This came about when people would yell the word Bingo instead of Beano. It just goes to show that little events can become the start of something special.

Bingo was created by Edwin S. Lowe and Carl Leffer, a professor from Columbia University and was originally used in Catholic Churches. It grew from these small beginnings as a simple fundraiser to the game it is today.

Now we see the game played in bingo halls all around the world, with a huge business created around it to not only make money but to also keep the players entertained. The key to its success is to keep it simple, yet to also provide entertainment. Whether it be the caller who puts on a performance for the audience, to even having live bands, the bingo halls are still putting on a show.

The real power of Bingo as a form of entertainment though has now moved online. With many online bingo sites offering the game to its players, there is no end of ways to play it. Whether on the move, or sat at your computer, all you have to do is log on to the game and enjoy it. This is done in a responsible way of course, because to win big, you have to find that balance of just how much to spend.

While online bingo may be the new way to play the game, that doesn’t mean that the bricks and mortar bingo halls are giving up the ghost, people still want a good night out. What they have done instead is to modernise, adding new experience to the game and keeping the punters entertained.

The key to bingo is that it is a fool proof way to entertain, and it works for people of all ages. Whether it is the kids who are using the bingo format to be educated, or it is the group of friends going on a bingo night out, the game is versatile enough to always be fun. The key is to not spoil something that works, and for bingo that has been a success. While it may have moved with technology, it has still stayed the same game, and that is what will make it stay popular in years to come.
